BELGIUM: Lommel United (B) (2011-2017) / Lommel SK (B) (2017-)

Park De Soeverein terr. 6 (B pitch of Lommel SK, formerly B ground of Lommel United)

Belgium, province: Limburg

1 IX 2024 / Lommel SK B - K Achel VV 1-1 / VFV National Division 3B (= BE level 5)

Timeline
  • ± 1983 / A sports park with three pitches is laid out for KFC Lommel SK’s youth academy at Speelpleinstraat, a stone’s throw to the north of the club’s stadium at Gestelsedijk. The pitches are also used by the club’s first team for training sessions. Also after KFC Lommel SK undergoes name changes, becoming KVSK United (2003) and Lommel United (2010), the three pitches remain in use for the same purposes.
  • 2010 / A renovation of the sports pitches at Speelpleinstraat is undertaken, with a new clubhouse being built as well as three extra pitches being laid out on the western side of that construction.
  • 2011 / Inauguration of the now re-baptised Park De Soeverein Jeugdvoetbalcentrum by Lommel’s mayor Peter Vanvelthoven on August 12th, 2011. The new pitch 5 has been equipped with a synthetic surface, while pitch 6 – at the southwestern end of the park – is taken in use by Lommel United’s first team for their training sessions.
  • 2017 / Lommel United takes on the new name Lommel SK.
  • 2024 / Pitch 6 of Park De Soeverein is extended to make sure its measurements are in conformity for national league football, as the pitch is taken in use by Lommel SK’s B team, which is placed in VFV National Division 3, the fifth and lowest tier of the national league pyramid, for the 2024-25 season. As a result, there is no room for spectators at any other than the northern side of the pitch. The encounter with K Achel VV (pictures below) was Lommel SK B's debut match in the national divisions.
