Sportpark Riekerhaven Noord, Amsterdam Westlandgracht (FC Chabab)
Netherlands, province: North Holland = Noord-Holland
31 V 2012 / FC Chabab - vv UNA 1-2 / Zondag Topklasse-Hoofdklasse, promotion-relegation play-off semi, first leg (= NL levels 3 & 4)
Note: Before FC Chabab moved into the northern half of Sportpark Riekerhaven (other clubs playing at this park were KBV, DTV, and ASV Rivalen), the ground shown in the photos below was home to AFC Neerlandia from the late 1950s onwards; this club vacated the premises in 1991. FC Chabab, founded as a club for Amsterdam's Moroccan community, saw the daylight in 1974, but played in recreational leagues for migrant workers until joining the Netherlands' Football Association in 1983. It is as yet unclear when the club moved into Sportpark Riekerhaven (although the most probable moment would be 1991). For years, the Amsterdam town council had been wanting to move Chabab and their neighbours Amsterdam Seref Spor away from Riekerhaven, as the facilities were outdated and the ground heavily polluted. In 2013-14, Chabab played its football at Sportpark Sloten Oost, groundsharing with FC Blauw-Wit Amsterdam and FC Beursbengels. During the 2014-15 season, some home games were moved to VVA/Spartaan and RKAVIC. Finally, in mid-2015, FC Chabab merged with SV Nieuw Utrecht. As the new club's name was simply SV Nieuw Utrecht and all football is being played at the Sportpark Rijnvliet in Utrecht, this merger amounted to the end of FC Chabab - and of the Riekerhaven facilities as well. Sportpark Riekerhaven, the grounds of which turned out to be heavily polluted, was demolished altogether in March 2013.
