Note - This stadium was originally built for the 1928 Olympic Games held in Amsterdam. Later on, the ground was often used (last in 1989) for games of the Netherlands' national team and European Cup games of Ajax (last in 1996). Following Ajax's move away from Stadion De Meer to the Amsterdam Arena (later renamed Johan Cruijff Arena) in 1996, the stadium was reduced to its original size (without the second level), with those renovation works being completed in 2000; nowadays, the pitch is only very occasionally used for football matches.
