BELGIUM: R Union Limaloise (1936-1988) / R Wavre Limal (1988-2020) / R Wavre Limal (B) (2020-2021)

Terrain 'Le Martineau', Limal (R Wavre Limal - B ground, formerly R Union Limaloise / R Wavre Limal - A ground)

Belgium, province: Walloon Brabant

23 X 2016 / RW Limal - RCS Brainois B 0-3 / Brabant, ACFF Provincial League 2 (= BE level 7)

Timeline
  • 1936 / Foundation of Union Limaloise (matricule 2395). It is unclear if the club played at Terrain Le Martineau from the outset.
  • ±1986 / In 1986 or 1987, Union Limaloise acquired the royal epithet, thus becoming Royale Union Limaloise.
  • 1988 / After a relatively anonymous existence, in which the club never reached a higher level than Brabant's Provincial League 2 (1939-40, 1972-74), R Union Limaloise concludes a merger with its more successful neighbour club R Wavre Sports, resulting in the foundation of Royal Wavre Limal - retaining Wavre Sports' matricule 79, but moving all activities to Le Martineau and Limal's training ground at Rue Charles Jaumotte. This move coincided with Wavre Sports' Stade Justin Peeters being taken over by National Division 2 side Racing Jet de Bruxelles (duly renamed Racing Jet Wavre). Due to the merger, Stade Le Martineau sees Provincial League 1 football for the first time in its history - the level at which Wavre Sports played at the time.
  • 1989 / Suffering relegation from Provincial League 1 in the first season after the merger between R Wavre Sports and R Union Limaloise, R Wavre Limal is placed in Provincial League 2.
  • 1993 / Winning the title in Provincial League 2A, R Wavre Limal manages a last season in P1 (1993-94) before tumbling back to lower league anonymity.
  • 2020 / With Stade Le Martineau being due to be replaced by housing, R Wavre Limal is invited by Wavre's town council to move its activities to Stade Justin Peeters. This coincides with municipal authorities evicting Wavre Sports FC - as Racing Jet Wavre has meanwhile been renamed - from the stadium due to its exasperation at the mismanagement of that club's presidency. Subsequently, Terrain Le Martineau is abandoned and demolished.
