BELGIUM: R Alliance Melen-Micheroux (RAMM)

Stade Marcel Michel, Soumagne Melen (R Alliance Melen-Micheroux)

Belgium, province: Liège = Luik

5 IX 2013 / R Alliance Melen-Micheroux - RUS Gold Star Liège 1-1 / Liège, Provincial League 2B (= BE level 6)

Note: Melen FC, founded in 1928 (matricule 1249), merged with Micheroux FC in 1941, forming FC Melen-Micheroux. Finally, in 1960, FC Melen-Micheroux concluded a second merger, involving village rivals CS Avenir Micheroux, becoming Alliance Melen-Micheroux. Avenir Micheroux was founded in 1910 as FC Fecher Soumagne, but changed names two times, becoming Cercle Sportif (CS) Soumagne in 1926 and CS Avenir Micheroux in 1941. This club started life in a socialist football league in Liège, but eventually joined the official Belgian Football Association. The merger between FC Melen-Micheroux and CS Avenir Micheroux in 1960 coincided with the abandonment of FC Melen-Micheroux's ground, Stade Gérard Vite (spelling uncertain, near the Ferme du Marais) in Melen, which had to make way for the Liège - Aix-la-Chapelle motorway (E42). The newly founded Alliance Melen-Micheroux moved into a newly built ground at Rue Louis Pasteur - just a stone's throw away from CS Avenir Micheroux's ground, which was at Avenue de la Cooperation (with the pitch being located at the synthetic pitch of the modern-day ground). After the merger in 1960, FC Melen-Micheroux's matricule 1249 was retained, while CS Avenir Soumagne's number 2517 was erased from the Belgian Football Association's official lists. In 1965, Alliance Melen-Micheroux obtained the royal epithet, thus becoming Royale Alliance Melen-Micheroux, or RAMM. While FC Melen-Micheroux had played several seasons in the national leagues, RAMM was markedly more successful with ten uninterrupted years in National League 4 (1969-79) and a total of eight more seasons in later years (1982-2005). Meanwhile, the ground at Rue Louis Pasteur was renamed Stade Marcel Michel in 1982.
