BELGIUM: KAS Eupen

Stadion am Kehrweg, Eupen (KAS Eupen)

Belgium, province: Liège = Luik

27 XII 2008 / KAS Eupen - R Antwerp FC 0-0 / Tweede Klasse = Division 2 (= BE level 2)
7 VIII 2010 /  KAS Eupen - KVC Westerlo 0-1 / Eerste Klasse = Division 1 (= BE level 1)

Note 1 - The start of footballing history in Eupen came in 1908, with the foundation of not one, but two clubs: FC Fortuna Eupen and Eupener Ballspielverein (BSV). In 1919, the two clubs concluded a merger to form Verein für Jugend- und Volksspiele (VJV) Eupen. That same year, following the treaty of Versailles, the Eupen-Malmedy region was ceded by Germany to Belgium, upon which the new merger club joined the Belgian Football Association with a French name, (La) Jeunesse d'Eupen, in 1920. Somehow, however, one of the two original clubs, probably FC Fortuna Eupen, disentangled itself from the merger, taking on the new name FC Eupen and joining the Belgian FA that same year. Upon the introduction of registration numbers in 1926, FC Eupen acquired number 92 (pointing to the fact that the club traced its foundation to 1908 rather than to 1920) and Jeunesse Eupen number 108. Following the occupation of Belgium by the German Wehrmacht in 1940, the two clubs must have taken on German names, but nothing is known about the matter. In 1945, when Eupen-Malmedy was once again incorporated into Belgium, Jeunesse Eupen and FC Eupen concluded a merger, forming a new club, Alliance Sportive (AS) Eupen, with the club acquiring a new registration number upon joining Belgium's FA: 4276. In 1981, AS Eupen germanicised its name, becoming Allgemeine Sportvereinigung (still AS) Eupen, with the royal epithet being obtained in 1995 - and the official club name being Königliche Allgemeine Sportvereinigung (KAS) Eupen since that time. In 2010, KAS Eupen won promotion to the top division of Belgian football for the first time in its history. By that time, the club was fully professional, involving a huge extension of the Stadion am Kehrweg, which had been in use steadily since 1945, in the following years. In 2024, KAS Eupen's U23 team also joined the football pyramid, playing its home matches on the synthetic side pitch of the Stadion am Kehrweg.
