Sportpark Spieringhorn West, Amsterdam Slotermeer (AFC DWS)
Netherlands, province: North Holland = Noord-Holland
14 IV 2013 / AFC DWS - SV Beverwijk 1-1 / District West I - Zondag 4e klasse D (= NL level 8)
Note: DWS, founded in 1907 as Hercules but renamed DWS (Door Wilskracht Sterk) two years later, acceded to the ranks of the professional league in 1954, first as DWS (1954-58), then merging with BVC Amsterdam to become DWS/A (1958-62) and reverting to its old name four years later (1962). During its days as a professional league club, DWS played its football at Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium. In 1972, DWS merged with Blauw-Wit, becoming FC Amsterdam. At that point, a non-league branch was split from the original DWS, continuing life as afc DWS in the lower branches of Sunday League. This non-league club settled down at the western half of Sportpark Spieringhorn in 1974. Mostly playing at Eerste Klasse level, afc DWS had a brief spell of one season in Zondag Hoofdklasse, then the highest division of the Sunday league pyramid (2007-08), but falling back into obscurity in the following years. In 2022, the club switched to playing on Saturdays - and in that same year, Sportpark Spieringhorn was abandoned temporarily in favour of ASV Blauw-Wit's Sportpark Sloten Oost to allow for extensive renovation works to be carried out at Spieringhorn. In the end, however, nothing came of the new park and DWS stayed at Sportpark Sloten once and for all.
