NETHERLANDS: vv CION (1990-2014)

Fortunapad "Ciondroom", Vlaardingen (formerly vv CION = Chevron Is Onze Naam)

Netherlands, province: South Holland

March 2011 / no match visited

Note: Founded in 1951, vv CION were originally called The Red Stars, named after the red star in the logo of Caltex, the oil factory of which The Red Stars were the sports club. In 1970, following Caltex's absorption into Chevron, the club changed their name to become vv CION. In the mid-1960s, The Red Stars' ground was situated at Samuel Esmeijerstraat, but in 1990, the move was made to a new ground in the vicinity of Fortuna Vlaardingen's old stadium; CION's new home at Fortunapad/Marathonweg was often referred to in jest as Ciondroom. Their stay here lasted for 24 years; forced by Vlaardingen's town council, who cherished plans to turn the premises into a business location, vv CION left the ground in 2014, groundsharing with SV Deltasport at Sportpark Broekpolder Oost for the following five years. From 2019 onwards, vv CION have had their own clubhouse and main pitch at Sportpark Broekpolder.
