Thorbeckepark "Sportpark Wesley Sneijder", Utrecht (vv DHSC = DOS-Holland-Stichtse Boys-Combinatie)
Netherlands, province: Utrecht
9 XII 2017 / DHSC - DUNO D 2-5 / Saturday League 1C (= NL level 6)
Note 1: around the time of my match visit, representatives of the board of DHSC as well as DUNO were unapologetic about their ambition to rise to a higher level of the non-league ladder, and about the fact that they reward football players for their services. As a result, both clubs are attractive for former professionals. In DUNO's ranks, former Ajax and De Graafschap player Purrel Fränkel plays left back, whilst DHSC has Evander Sno (formerly NAC, Ajax, Celtic and one cap in the national team) and Rodney Sneijder (brother to Wesley Sneijder, who is one of DHSC's main sponsors) in its ranks. Photo 10 below shows Evander Sno (front, left) and Purrel Fränkel (black guy in red in the background).
Note 2: DHSC were formed as a merger of DHC '04 and vv Stichtse Boys. DHC '04, in its turn, was the result of former professional league side vv DOS (Door Oefening Sterk) and twofold Sunday League national champions USV Holland coming together in one club in 2004. The grounds of DOS and Holland were situated in the Thorbeckepark. After the 2007 merger, Holland's premises were knocked down and replaced by several apartment blocks. DOS' former ground was completely reorganised into three new pitches with a new club house (constructed in 2009). DHSC's main pitch is roughly situated on DOS' erstwhile training pitch.
