Note: the current FC Merksem were founded in 1959 under the name of FC Bridge, but played in local amateur leagues not affiliated to the Belgian Football Association for the first sixteen years of their existance. In 1975, the club joined the regular provincial leagues as FC Bridge Merksem, finally becoming FC Merksem in 1982. After having played at several locations across the north-eastern part of Antwerp, FC Merksem groundshared with K Merksem SC at the Jef Mermans stadium (2001-2006) before settling down at their current ground at Gasthuishoevestraat in 2006. This ground had previously been occupied by amateur sides such as FC Vrij Merksem and FC Bestaanszekerheid, but had fallen in disrepair for several years prior to FC Merksem moving in.
