Stedelijk Sportstadion 'Jules Matthijs', Sotteghem = Zottegem = Sottegem (formerly K Sportvereniging Sottegem / Eendracht Elene / Eendracht Elene-Grotenberge)
Belgium, province: East Flanders
6 II 2010 / KSV Sottegem - KVC Willebroek-Meerhof 0-1 / National Division 3A (= BE level 3)
14 IV 2019 / KSV Sottegem - KSC Excelsior Mariakerke 1-3 / East Flanders, Provincial League 1 (= BE level 6)
Note 1: the municipal stadium in Sotteghem (Zottegem in Dutch, Sottegem in French) was constructed between 1967 and 1969, finally being inaugurated on June 1, 1969. Since, it served as home ground of KSV Sottegem. This club had hitherto played their football in grounds at Bruggenhoek (1922-1967) and Kloosterstraat-Erwetegem (1967-1969). In October 2018, after the heating system in the clubhouse at the stadium had broken down, the club decided to move their first team football to their youth academy (and former A ground) in Erwetegem - though some isolated matches were played at Stadion Jules Matthijs. Recently, the decision was taken to leave the stadium altogether in favour of the synthetic pitch in Erwetegem. The 14 IV 2019 encounter probably was the last-ever official regular first team match played at the ground. The stadium was knocked down in January and February 2024 to make way for a new municipal sports park with a sports hall and a rugby pitch.
Note 2: between 2012 & 2014, Eendracht Elene groundshared with KSV Sottegem, as Elene's own ground (Boskouter) was deemed unfit even for provincial league football. In 2014, Eendracht Elene merged with K Eendracht Grotenberge, forming Eendracht Elene-Grotenberge - and this new club stayed at the stadium in Sotteghem for one more season until renovations at Grotenberge's ground, Breivelde, had been completed.
Note 3: below, a compilation of photographs of three different visits: pictures 1-7 = non-matchday visit, February 2019 / pictures 8-25 = matchday visit, April 2019 / picture 26 = matchday visit, February 2010.
