BELGIUM: R Union Wallonne Ciney (1975-2021)

Stade Joseph Lambert, Ciney (R Union Wallonne Ciney)

Belgium, province: Namur = Namen

10 III 2012 / RUW Ciney - RJS Habaysienne 3-0 / League 4D (= BE level 4)
26 VIII 2017 / RUW Ciney - RFC Union La Calamine 3-0 / ACFF Div. 2 (= BE level 4)

Note 1: Joseph Lambert was Ciney's mayor from 1959 until his untimely passing away in 1968. Works on the stadium bearing his name in Ciney's Parc Saint-Roch began in 1970; it took no fewer than five years to complete the construction. By way of celebration, an inaugural match was held on August 3rd, 1975, against Slovan Bratislava (from what was then Czechoslovakia). The club played there for 46 years, finally abandoning the ground in 2021 in favour of the site which had been home to their youth academy from 2005 onwards, the Stade André Tillieux. The Stade Lambert will be replaced by housing.

Note 2: below, a combination of photos taken at three different match visits: no. 1-14, 16-17, 19-20 & 23: match visit, August 2017 / no. 15, 18 & 21-22: match visit, March 2012 / no. 24-36: non-matchday (ruin) visit, August 2021.
