Father O'Brien Park, Dugort (Achill Rovers Football, Drama and Athletic Club, formerly Achill United Football Club)
Ireland, county: Mayo
30 VI 2019 / Achill Rovers - Bangor Hibs 1-4 / Mayo Football League, Premier League
Note: Achill United were founded in the hamlet of Dugort (alternatively spelled as Doogort), Achill Island, in 1974. After having played their first game on a community pitch in Dugort proper, the club swiftly moved to their current ground, situated east of Dugort, hemmed in between Lough Nambrack and the Atlantic coastline in a part of the island usually referred to as 'The Valley'. The pitch was moved to its current position after the original site, slightly closer to Lough Nambrack, had proved so uneven that a referee had fallen into a hole during a match. In 1986, Achill United merged with the only other football (soccer) team on Achill Island, Achill Eagles ADFC, based at Shamrock Park in Keel. The new club name chosen was Achill Rovers FDAC. All football was moved to the pitch in Dugort, renamed Father O'Brien Park in that same year to honour the erstwhile local priest, Vincent O'Brien, who founded Achill United.
