BELGIUM: Turnhout 72

Complex 'AZ Sint-Jozef', Turnhout (Turnhout 72)

Belgium, province: Antwerp

20 X 2019 / Turnhout 72 - Zondereigen Voetbal 1-1 / KVDV, Sunday League

Note: this pitch, situated right next to Turnhout's Algemeen Ziekenhuis or General Hospital, was constructed in 1980 by the hospital presidency - and they intended to add other sports facilities, including a tennis court, but those plans never materialised. Turnhout 72, who played their football at other grounds in Turnhout for the first eight years of their existence, have been the ground's main user from the beginning onwards, though they were joined for some years by a Saturday League team of hospital personnel, which was probably called Het Gasthuis. Turnhout 72 are members of the so-called Kempisch Verbond der Vriendenclubs (KVDV), a league of amateur teams from the Rijkevorsel region, Province of Antwerp. Under the auspices of the KVDV, both Saturday and Sunday league football is being organised - with Turnhout 72 playing on Sundays.
