BELGIUM: RCS Stavelotain (1979-)

Pré Messire, Stavelot (R Club Sportif Stavelotain)

Belgium, province: Liège = Luik

24 X 2021 / RCS Stavelotain - RFC Union La Calamine B 5-1 / Liège, Provincial League 2C (= BE level 7)

Note 1: CS Stavelotain, founded in 1921 (matricule 126), played their football at Stade Jean Depouhon (± 1921-1955) and Stade Eugène Daxhelet (Aux Bressaix) (± 1955-1979) before settling down at Pré Messire. The idea of creating a new stadium for the club was conceived in 1978, when the club was about to win promotion to Nationwide Division 3 - and the pitch at Stade Daxhelet did not have the correct measurements for a stadium eligible to be used on that level at the time. In fact, RCS Stavelotain, who played a total of 10 years in Nationwide Division 4 (1972-81 & 1984-85), finished fifth in Promotion 4A in 1978, just five points away from league winners US Ferrières - and never reached the third tier of Belgian football, but the construction of a new ground went ahead nonetheless. Stade Pré Messire was inaugurated on October 21st, 1979. Nowadays, while first team football usually takes place at Stade Pré Messire, the ground Aux Bressaix is still in use for lower team football and training purposes. Stade Jean Depouhon, on the other hand, was later taken over by SC Stâv'leu Sport and several recreational teams. After the demise of Stâv'leu, RCS Stavelotain itself also made use of the premises for training purposes once in a while, but the ground has meanwhile been abandoned.
