NETHERLANDS: RKVV Schimmert

Sportcomplex Waterkuilsweg "De Waterkoel", Schimmert (RKVV Schimmert)

Netherlands, province: Limburg

6 VI 2022 / vv Schimmert - RKVV Keer 6-2 / Sunday League 4A (= NL level 9)

Note: Rooms-Katholieke Voetbalvereniging (RKVV) Schimmert saw the daylight in 1940, being the successor of an eponymous club which had played its football in two local Limburg leagues (RKLVB and LVB) for thirteen years (1925-38). Unlike their predecessors, the new RKVV Schimmert - colloquially known as vv Schimmert - joined the official Netherlands' Football Association. The club successively played at various grounds; Aan de Windmolen 'Achter Schimmert' (1940-41), Wegscheiderweg (nowadays Bekerbaan, 1941-55), and 'Het Billich' (a meadow put at the club's disposal by a local farmer, 1955-58). In 1958, vv Schimmert settled down at their current ground, Sportpark De Waterkoel. In 1962, due to the bad state of the pitch at De Waterkoel, the club moved back to Het Billich for two seasons. In 1966-67, the ground was out of use yet again, this time because of a band of gypsies having occupied the premises; again, Het Billich was vv Schimmert's refuge. After the club's final return to Waterkuilsweg, the ground was slowly upgraded. Until 1972, the players had had to use a local farmer's pigsty to change clothes, but in that year a clubhouse and dressing room situated at the pitch were finally inaugurated; five years later, the construction was extended, taking on its current shape. The construction of a covered stand followed in 1992. In 2014, the ground's main pitch was equipped with a 3G surface.
