1976 / Foundation of a football club in Gestel, a hamlet of Lummen in the Belgian Province of Limburg. The new club takes on the name Voetbalklub (VK) Gestel, joining the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB) under registration number 8471. VK Gestel starts its existence as a competitive club at the bottom of the league ladder, in Limburg’s Provincial League 4.
1983 / Champions in Limburg’s Provincial League 4C, VK Gestel wins promotion to Provincial League 3 for the first time.
1996 / Finishing in second-last place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3E, VK Gestel drops back into Provincial League 4 after thirteen years.
1997 / Runner-up in Limburg’s Provincial League 4D, VK Gestel manages a return to Provincial League 3 after just one year.
2006 / VK Gestel finishes as runner-up in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, 3 points behind champions KFC Kattenbos Sport.
2010 / Finishing in second-last place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel drops back into Provincial League 4 alongside bottom club FC Anadol.
2011 / Runner-up in Limburg’s Provincial League 4B, 8 points behind champions K Achel VV, VK Gestel qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club successively knocks out KVV HO Molenbeersel (6-2 aggr.) and ESJ Alken (2-1 aggr.) in the first two rounds, going on to have the better of Grenstrappers Lommel Kolonie in the final (4-2 aggr.). As such, the club manages an immediate return to Provincial League 3.
2012 / Finishing third from bottom of the table in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel avoids relegation in a play-off round against the clubs sitting at no. 14 in the two other P3 series, K Sparta Kuringen and LS Leut, managing a draw and a win against the former (0-0, 4-1) and two comprehensive (4-0) wins over the latter. As such, Gestel is the only of the three clubs to avoid the drop.
2013 / Finishing bottom of the table in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel descends into Provincial League 4 along with KFC Verbroedering Lommel and K Peerder SV.
2014 / Champions in Limburg’s Provincial League 4A, 2 points ahead of closest rivals K Bolderberg FC, VK Gestel manages an immediate return to Provincial League 3.
2015 / Finishing in fourth place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is eliminated in R1 by SK Munsterbilzen (5-4 aggr.).
2017 / Finishing in third-last place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel avoids relegation in a play-off round against the clubs sitting at no. 14 in the two other P3 series, FC Herderen-Millen and K Kabouters Opglabbeek, managing a win and a draw against the former (2-0, 1-1) and a win and a defeat against the latter (0-1, 2-3). As such, Gestel and Opglabbeek stay up, with only Herderen-Millen descending into Provincial League 4.
2018 / Finishing in fifth place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A, VK Gestel qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is knocked out in R1 by K Heers VV (6-1 aggr.).
2019 / Finishing in fifth place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A for the second year in a row, VK Gestel once again suffers elimination in R1 of the promotion play-off, this time against Genker VV (5-1 aggr.).
2022 / Finishing in fifth place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3A for the third year running, VK Gestel qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club edges past Membruggen V&V in R1 (1-1 aggr. & penalty shoot-out), only to suffer defeat in the final against K Lanaken VV (5-3 aggr.). However, due to Provincial League 2 side RC Reppel ceasing all activities, an extra promotion place becomes available, with the lucky loser ticket going to Gestel. As such, the club accedes to Provincial League 2 for the first time.
2023 / Finishing in second-last place in Limburg’s Provincial League 2A, VK Gestel suffers instant relegation into Provincial League 3, alongside bottom club K Bolderberg FC.
2024 / Finishing in second-last place in Limburg’s Provincial League 3B, VK Gestel suffers back-to-back relegations, descending into Provincial League 4 along with K Achel VV B and bottom club Sporting Grote-Brogel.
2026 / Finishing in a modest thirteenth place in Limburg’s Provincial League 4A, VK Gestel withdraws from first team football – with all youth teams being taken over by local rivals KVV Lummen due to all remaining board members of VK Gestel having withdrawn from the club. This does not constitute the end of the club (yet), however, with plans being harboured to attempt a restart in the summer of 2027. It remains to be seen what will come of this project. Meanwhile, the two pitches of VK Gestel remain in use for lower team football and training sessions by KVV Lummen, as well as by a recreational team.
