Timeline
- 1917 / Foundation of a first football club in Bissen, a village in the heart of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. The new club takes on the name FC Jeunesse Bissen, settling on a pitch laid out Am Brill, on the northern fringes of the village. The new club does not join the official Luxembourg Football Association (FLF), possibly seeking affiliation with the smaller Féderation Sportive Ardennaise (FSA) instead.
- 1923 / After an existence of six years, FC Jeunesse Bissen folds, ceasing all activities.
- 1929 / Foundation of a new football club in Bissen, which takes on the name FC Red Star Bissen. Like its predecessor, the new club settles on a pitch situated at Am Brill. This club may also have joined the FSA association, but no certainty is to be had on the matter.
- 1934 / After an existence of five years, FC Red Star Bissen folds, ceasing all activities due to financial problems as well as the sorry state of the pitch Am Brill.
- 1942 / Foundation of a new football club in Bissen, which takes on the name FC 42 – without the addition of the name of the village, as the new club is in fact a joint venture of youngsters from Bissen and the neighbouring locality of Schieren. A pitch is laid out Am Brill, with the new club contenting itself with playing friendly matches against teams from surrounding villages.
- 1945 / At the end of the German occupation of Luxembourg, FC 42 breaks in two, as two separate clubs are founded, FC Atert Bissen (1945) and FC Jeunesse Schieren (1946) by the respective halves of its membership. Atert Bissen’s first chairman is Albert Raths. A first pitch is laid out for the club on a pasture owned by Bitz Batty, situated at Am Brill. Because the state of the pitch proves far from perfect, some of the club activities are moved to the Paafend island in the following months, while the laying out of a new pitch is projected.
- 1946 / A new ground is inaugurated at Am Brill, on a pasture owned by Ms Ecker, with a gala match between FC Progrès Niederkorn and Union Luxembourg (1-4) on June 16th, 1946. In the summer of 1946, FC Atert Bissen starts its existence as a competitive club in Division 3, the fifth and lowest tier of the Grand-Duchy’s league pyramid.
- 1947 / Champions in Division 3 Group 3, 5 points ahead of closest followers FC Jeunesse Useldange, FC Atert Bissen wins promotion to Division 2 (level 4).
- 1949 / Finishing in second-last place in Division 2 Group 2, FC Atert Bissen drops back into Division 3 along with bottom club FC Knaphoscheid-Selscheid.
- 1950 / FC Atert Bissen finishes as runners-up in Division 3 Group 5, 2 points behind champions FC Les Ardoisiers Perlé.
- 1951 / In spite of comfortably winning the title in Division 3 Group 5, 10 points ahead of closest followers US Boevange-Attert, FC Atert Bissen does not accede to Division 2 – possibly voluntarily, with the promotion ticket going to the runners-up instead.
- 1952 / Runners-up in Division 3 Group 5, 1 point behind champions SC Rédange, FC Atert Bissen wins promotion to Division 2.
- 1953 / Moving away from Terrain Mme Ecker at Am Brill, FC Atert Bissen settles on another pitch situated at Am Brill, owned by a local smallholder, Gérard Bitz. - 1964 / Finishing in second-last place in Division 3 Group 2, FC Atert Bissen descends into the newly created Division 4 (level 6) along with FC Jeunesse Useldange, FC Iska Boys Simmern, AS Luxembourg, and bottom club FC Alisontia Steinsel.
- 1965 / Runners-up in Division 4 Group 2, 2 points behind champions FC Jeunesse Junglinster, FC Atert Bissen qualifies for the promotion play-offs with FC Iska Boys Simmern and FC Sporting Mertzig, eventually finishing as runners-up behind the former – insufficient for a promotion ticket.
- 1966 / Champions in Division 4 Group 3, 1 point ahead of runners-up FC Blo-Weiss Itzig, FC Atert Bissen manages a return to Division 3 after two seasons.
- 1971 / Finishing bottom of the table in Division 3 Group 1, FC Atert Bissen drops back into Division 4 along with the club in second-last place, FC Les Ardoisiers Perlé.
- 1976 / Finishing in third place in Division 4 Group 2, FC Atert Bissen wins promotion to Division 2 (!), the fourth level of Luxembourg’s league system, along with champions FC Kehlen and runners-up FC Marisca Mersch, due to Division 4 being abolished following the withdrawal of all reserves’ teams from the regular league pyramid.
- 1978 / Champions in Division 2 Group 2, 2 points ahead of runners-up FC Egalité Weimerskirch, FC Atert Bissen wins promotion to Division 1, the third tier of Luxembourg’s league pyramid, for the first time.
- 1980 / Finishing in tenth place in Division 1 Group 1, FC Atert Bissen goes on to win the promotion-relegation play-offs against FC Résidence Walferdange and US Rambrouch, thus staving off relegation.

- 1984 / Runners-up in Division 1 Group 1, 3 points behind champions FC Orania Vianden, FC Atert Bissen qualifies for the promotion-relegation play-offs against FCM Young Boys Diekirch and US Mondorf-les-Bains, in the end having to settle for second place behind the latter – insufficient for a promotion ticket.
- 1986 / Runners-up in Division 1 Group 1, 1 point behind champions FC Sporting Mertzig, FC Atert Bissen qualifies for the promotion-relegation play-offs, in which the club finishes in last place behind FC Sporting Steinfort and US Mondorf-les-Bains – thus missing out on promotion.

- 1989 / Runners-up in Division 2 Group 1, 1 point behind champions – and derby rivals – FC Jeunesse Schieren, FC Atert Bissen manages a return to Division 1 after two seasons.
- 1994 / Finishing bottom of the table in Division 1 Group 1, FC Atert Bissen drops back into Division 2 along with FC Sporting Steinfort and FC Red Black Pfaffenthal.
- 1995 / Moving away from Terrain Paafend, FC Atert Bissen settles on a newly laid-out pitch, Terrain Am Bousbierg, situated at Rouschter Strooss. The new ground is inaugurated in early August 1995. Terrain Paafend remains in use for lower team football and training sessions.
- 2017 / The second pitch of a new projected ground for FC Atert Bissen, Stade Klengbousbierg, equipped with a synthetic surface, is handed over to FC Atert Bissen, allowing part of the club’s activities to move to the new ground, with all the remaining teams following in the following months. Meanwhile, Terrain Paafend still remains in use for training purposes.
