Luxembourg, canton: Cappellen
23 X 2010 / FC ES Clemency - FC Munsbach 5-6 / Division 1 Série 2 (= LUX level 3)
Timeline
- 1915 / A first football club is founded in the village of Clemency - or Kéinzig in the Luxembourgian language. The name chosen is Football Club Etoile Sportive (FC ES) Clemency.
- 1921 / FC ES Clemency folds, ceasing all activities
- 1957 / Foundation of a second Football Club Etoile Sportive (FC ES) Clemency, usually referred to just as ES Clémency. Home matches take place at a ground situated at Lieu-dit 'An der Schwemm', Rue de la Gare (cp. last photo in the series below). On non-matchdays, the ground was a pasture grazed by the local farmer's cows - making the removal of the animals' excrements necessary each Sunday morning before the footballers could start their match. There was no clubhouse, with the players having to take a shower at a local bar, Café beim Groen Willy, while the referees' changing room was at another pub, Café beim Berta.
- 1967 / The club moves to its current ground, situated at the other side of Rue de la Gare. With building materials put at the club's disposal by Clemency's town council, the clubhouse was constructed by volunteers among the football club's membership.
- 1998 / For the first time in the club's history, ES Clemency managed a promotion to Division 1, the third tier of Luxembourg's football pyramid, with relegation back into Division 2 following in 1999. Since then, 'ESC' has had a few more spells in Division 1, with the majority of seasons, however, being spent in Division 2 and Division 3.
- 2015 / Inauguration of a new clubhouse after removal of its old predecessor and the small covered stand.
Note 1: Thanks to FC ES Clémency's president Fred Reuter for putting at my disposal exact details regarding his club's history (2022).
