BELGIUM: FC Oignies (1966-2014)

Rue Chantecler, Oignies-en-Thiérarche (formerly FC Oignies)

Belgium, province: Namur = Namen

August 2024 / no match visited

Timeline
  • 1926 / Foundation of a first football club in the village of Oignies-en-Thiérarche in Namur, which is given the name Cercle Sportif (CS) Oignies. The club does not join Belgium’s Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB) yet. It is unclear where CS Oignies’ pitch was situated.
  • 1928 / CS Oignies joins Belgium’s FA, obtaining registration number 1271 upon being accepted as new member club.
  • 1931 / Not having taken part in any official competition in the past three years – and always having stuck to being an ‘aspirant’ club – CS Oignies folds, ceasing all activities. Registration number 1271 is erased from the Belgian FA’s official lists.
  • 1939 / Refoundation of Cercle Sportif (CS) Oignies, which joins Belgium’s FA with registration number 2824. It is unclear where CS Oignies’ pitch was situated.
  • 1943 / After four years without participation in any official Belgian FA competition, CS Oignies now takes part in Namur’s regional divisions for the first time.
  • 1960 / After an existence of 21 years, of which the last seventeen in Namur’s provincial leagues, CS Oignies (matr. 2824) folds, ceasing all activities.
  • 1966 / Six years after the demise of CS Oignies (matr. 2824), a new football club is founded in Oignies-en-Thiérarche, Football Club (FC) de Oignies, which acquires registration number 6934 upon being accepted as new member of the federation. Most probably, FC Oignies played its football on the pitch at Rue Chantecler from the outset, but no absolute clarity can be given regarding the matter. No information is available about the results of FC Oignies in the first four decades of its existence, but the club never rose above the level of Namur’s provincial divisions.
  • 2012 / Having managed mid-table positions in Namur’s Provincial League 4E in the previous seasons, FC Oignies now finishes in joint last place in that same division with ES Frontières B.
  • 2013 / Obtaining only 3 points in the entire season (three draws and 23 defeats, goal difference: -146), FC Oignies finishes rock bottom in P4E in 2012-13.
  • 2014 / Having a 2013-14 campaign which is even more disastrous than the previous season – with home drubbings against ES Gimnée-Mazée (2-21) and US Viroin-Treignes (0-21) being particularly painful – FC Oignies eventually withdraws from the league. The club’s last sign of life is an away match at ES Frontières on February 23rd, 2014, ending in a 5-0 defeat.
  • 2016 / After two years without activity – the club effectively having folded in early 2014 – the registration number of FC Oignies is erased from the Belgian FA’s official lists.
