Timeline
- 1970 / Foundation of a football club in Virelles, a village in the far south of Belgium, just north of Chimay, with the new club taking on the name Union Sportive (US) Virelloise. The new club settles on a pitch laid out at Rue de l’Eau Blanche, referred to locally as Stade de la Praye, with a small wooden clubhouse as well as wooden dressing rooms being erected alongside the pitch. For the moment, US Virelloise does not join the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB) yet.
- 1971 / US Virelloise joins the Belgian Football Association in December 1971 with registration number 7593.
- 1972 / For its first season as a competitive club, US Virelloise is placed in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4.
- 1975 / Champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4F, 1 point ahead of closest rivals US Rièzoise, US Virelloise wins promotion to Provincial League 3.
- 1976 / The wooden clubhouse at the Stade de la Praye is replaced by a construction in stone.
- 1981 or 1982 / The clubhouse of the Stade de la Praye is markedly extended to both sides, with the renovation works also involving the addition to the set-up of dressing rooms erected in stone.
- 1988 / Runaway champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, 10 points ahead of closest followers US Solrézienne, US Virelloise accedes to Provincial League 2 for the first time in club history.
- 1989 / In its best season as an independent club, US Virelloise manages a fifth place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C.
- 1992 / Finishing in second-last place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, US Virelloise descends into Provincial League 3 after four years, alongside the club in second-last place AS Hameautoise Monceau. Following the 1991-92 season, the club concludes a merger with FC Chimay, resulting in the foundation of Association Sportive (AS) Chimay-Virelles, which retains Virelloise’s registration number 7593; Chimay’s number 7323 is erased from the Belgian FA’s official lists. The merger club, of which the name is often abbreviatedly given as ASCV, takes the place of US Virelloise in Provincial League 3, with first team football being played at the Stade de la Praye in Virelles and the club’s youth academy settling at Stade Jéricho in Chimay.
- 2001 / Runaway champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3E, 16 points ahead of closest followers US Maconaise, AS Chimay-Virelles wins promotion to Provincial League 2 for the first time.
- 2002 / Runner-up in Provincial League 2C, 6 points behind champions RFC Gozéen, AS Chimay-Virelles qualifies for the promotion play-offs. Successively eliminating Jeunesse Turque (0-1) and RUFC Ransartoise (3-2) in the knock-out stage, the club manages a second place in the group stage, behind Bracquegnies Sport (against which a 2-0 away defeat is suffered), but ahead of SC Quevaucamps (3-1 home win); in the end, however, due to extra promotion places being available, all three clubs in the final stage win promotion – with this being a first-ever in the history of football in the municipality of Chimay, which had never previously seen one of its clubs rise to this level of the football pyramid.
- 2003 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 1, AS Chimay-Virelles drops back into Provincial League 2 after just one season, along with RFC Gozéen and Bracquegnies Sport.
- 2004 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, AS Chimay-Virelles suffers back-to-back relegations, descending into Provincial League 3, along with the club in second-last place, Trazegnies Sports.
- 2007 / Finishing in second-last place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, AS Chimay-Virelles is retrograded into Provincial League 4, alongside US Solrézienne B. Also in 2007, as plans are drawn up to construct a helicopter landing area on the site of the Stade Jéricho – plans which never materialise – AS Chimay-Virelles abandons its second ground, withdrawing all its activities to the Stade de la Praye in Virelles. The Stade Jéricho has been left to its own devices ever since.
- 2008 / Clinching the title in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H, 3 points ahead of closest rivals FC Marbaisien, AS Chimay-Virelles wins promotion to Provincial League 3.
- 2011 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, AS Chimay-Virelles drops back into Provincial League 4, along with SRJS Thudinienne and JS Montigny-Landelies.
- 2013 / Finishing in fifth place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4h, AS Chimay-Virelles qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is knocked out in R1 by US Solrézienne B (3-1).
- 2016 / After one year of inactivity, former ASCV rival club US Saint-Rémy folds, ceasing all activities; The pitch of that club at Rue du Fourneau is taken over by AS Chimay-Virelles for training purposes.
- 2020 / AS Chimay-Virelles experiences its best season in years, but sees the league season cut short following the first COVID lockdown in March 2020, thus unable to capitalise on its second place in the table of Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H (11 points behind runaway leaders RRC Rance) in the play-offs.
- 2023 / AS Chimay-Virelles, by then playing its football in Provincial League 4, abandons the Stade de la Praye in Virelles, moving all its activities to Rue du Fourneau in Saint-Rémy. Since, the pitch in Virelles has been left to its own devices.
- 2026 / With AS Chimay-Virelles being absorbed into R Baileux Sport, which changes its name to R Baileux Chimay Sport, registration number 7593 of the former US Virelloise is erased from the Belgian FA’s membership list.
