Belgium, province: Hainaut = Henegouwen
24 VIII 2025 / R Baileux Sport - RES Roux 2-3 / Hainaut, Provincial League 3D (= BE level 8)
Timeline
- 1957 / Foundation of a football club in Baileux, a village in the far south of the Province of Hainaut, halfway between Chimay and the French border. The new club, which is given the name Baileux Sport, acquires registration number 6001 upon being accepted as a new member of the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB). The club settles on a pitch at Rue Boutonville – a ground referred to locally as Stade de la Vernelle, as the locality halfway between Baileux and Boutonville is known by this name. The pastures on which the pitch is laid out are owned by Maurice Franssen, future mayor of Baileux (1965-77) and Chimay (1977-99) – the latter after a merger of several smaller municipalities, including Baileux, into the larger entity of Chimay. Baileux Sport starts its life as a competitive club in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3.
- 1968 / Clinching the title in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, Baileux Sport wins promotion to Provincial League 2 for the first time, along with runners-up – and derby rivals – US Rièzes.
- 1972 / Baileux Sport qualifies for R1 of the Belgian Cup, in which the club is knocked out by Racing Jet Bruxelles SR with its star player Jean-Pierre Colonval.
- 1973 / Finishing in second-last place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, Baileux Sport drops back into Provincial League 3 along with bottom club FC Baulet.
- 1974 / Runners-up in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3C, with an equal number of points as champions RFC Gozéen, but with an inferior goal difference, Baileux Sport wins promotion to Provincial League 2.
- 1975 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, Baileux Sport descends into Provincial League 3 after just one season, along with the club in second-last place, RFC Gozéen.
- 1986 / Champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, 1 point ahead of closest rivals FC Landelies, Baileux Sport manages a return to Provincial League 2 after an absence of eleven years.
- 1992 / In the best season in club history, Baileux Sport finishes as runners-up in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, 7 points behind champions FC Chapelle-Godarfontaine.
- 2000 / The original clubhouse at Stade de la Vernelle is consumed in a fire. Chimay’s municipal authorities bring together a budget to build the club a replacement, a two-storey building with a canteen on the upper floor and the dressing rooms downstairs.
- 2002 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 2C, Baileux Sport is retrograded into Provincial League 3 after sixteen years.
- ± 2003 / A training pitch is added to the set up at Stade de la Vernelle.
- 2008 / One year after the club’s fiftieth anniversary, Baileux Sport acquires the royal epithet, thus officially changing its name to become Royal Baileux Sport.
- 2009 / Champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, 3 points ahead of closest followers EC Erpion, R Baileux Sport wins promotion to Provincial League 2.
- 2012 / Maurice Franssen, former mayor of Baileux and Chimay, and owner of the location on which the two pitches of R Baileux Sport have been laid out, passes away at the age of 81. The ownership passes to his heirs, who allow the club to continue to make use of the site.
- 2015 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3C, R Baileux Sport drops back into Provincial League 3 along with the club in second-last place, EC Erpion.
