Timeline
- 1962 / Foundation of a football club in Saint-Rémy, a hamlet shortly to the west of Chimay in the far south of Belgium – and by today completely absorbed by the town. The new club takes on the name Union Sportive (US) Saint-Rémy, settling on a pitch laid out at Rue du Fourneau.
- 1963 / One year after its foundation, US Saint-Rémy joins the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB), acquiring registration number 6636 upon being accepted as a new member club.
- 1964 / Having only competed in reserves’ football in its first season as an association member, US Saint-Rémy now starts its existence as a competitive club in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3.
- 1970 / Finishing in fourteenth place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3E, US Saint-Rémy is retrograded into the newly created Provincial League 4, alongside US Maconaise, RC Rance, US Solrézienne, JS Ragnicole, EC Erpion, Sautin Sports, JS Froidchapelloise, and bottom club FC Route Verte Macquenoise.
- 1974 / US Saint-Rémy finishes as runner-up in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4E, 7 points behind champions US Maconaise.
- 1975 / Finishing in third place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4F behind US Virelloise and US Rièzoise, US Saint-Rémy wins promotion to Provincial League 3, with extra promotion places being available due to one extra P3 series being created.
- 1976 / Unable to cope with the level of Provincial League 3 football, US Saint-Rémy finishes bottom of the table in P3D, thus dropping back into Provincial League 4 alongside the club in second-last place, CS Erquelinnois.
- 1978 / Champions in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H, 3 points ahead of closest followers and derby rivals FC Chimay, US Saint-Rémy manages a return to Provincial League 3 after two years.
- 1979 / In the best season in club history, US Saint-Rémy finishes in seventh place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D.
- 1982 / Finishing bottom of the table in Hainaut’s Provincial League 3D, US Saint-Rémy descends into Provincial League 4 after four years, along with GS Inteclub Gerpinnes and FC Damprémy.
- 1996 / Almost always finishing near the bottom of the table in Provincial League 4 since its relegation in 1982, US Saint-Rémy now manages a relatively successful season, finishing in third place in P4E behind champions FC Fontaine-Valmont and runner-up US Maconaise.
- 2010 / Finishing in second-last place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H, US Saint-Rémy withdraws from first team football for good. The club continues its existence with just a recreational (ladies’) team.
- 2015 / The ladies’ team of US Saint-Rémy withdraws from competitive football, with US Saint-Rémy thus becoming inactive.
- 2016 / After one year of inactivity, US Saint-Rémy folds, ceasing all activities; registration number 6636 is erased from the Belgian FA’s membership list. The pitch at Rue du Fourneau is taken over by rival club AS Chimay-Virelles (a merger between the former US Virelloise and FC Chimay, concluded in 1992, which retained Virelloise’s registration number 7593) for training purposes.
- 2023 / AS Chimay-Virelles, by then playing its football in Provincial League 4, abandons the Stade de la Praye in Virelles, moving all its activities to Rue du Fourneau in Saint-Rémy.
- 2024 / Finishing in fifth place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H, AS Chimay-Virelles qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club edges past CO Trivières B in R1 (2-2 A.E.T. & penalty shoot-out), only to suffer elimination in R2 against RES Frasnoise B (0-5).
- 2025 / Finishing in fifth place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H, AS Chimay-Virelles qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is knocked out in R1 by RSB Frameries B (2-1).
- 2026 / In its last season as an independent club, AS Chimay-Virelles finishes in a modest eleventh place in Hainaut’s Provincial League 4H. Following the 2025-26 season, the club is absorbed into another local club, R Baileux Sport, resulting in the foundation of R Baileux Chimay Sport, which retains Baileux’s registration number 6001; ASCV’s number 7593 is erased from the Belgian FA’s membership list. Henceforth, most activities of the club take place at the Stade de la Vernelle in Baileux, with selected matches and training sessions being staged at the Terrain de la rue du Fourneau in Saint-Rémy.
