Timeline
- 1933 / Foundation of a football club in Comblain-la-Tour, a village in the south of the Province of Liège. The new club takes on the name FC Comblain-la-Tour, joining the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB) under registration number 1969 that same year. The club played in Liège’s regional and provincial divisions throughout its existence. It is unclear if the club played its home matches on the pitch at Route de Fairon from the outset, but this is not improbable – and the club settled here in the mid-1950s at its latest.
- 1959 / A summer jazz festival is held in Comblain-la-Tour for the first time, with all performances being held on the pitch at Route de Fairon. The lists of participants includes Chet Baker, Sadi Lallemand, and the orchestra of Léo Souris. Souris also writes the string arrangements to Chet Baker’s performance, conducting the orchestra on the night.
- 1960 / The second edition of the open-air jazz festival in Comblain-la-Tour is staged on the football pitch and the surrounding area, with Chet Baker and Léo Souris once again featuring in the participants’ list, which includes no fewer than 48 (!) jazz orchestras. Souris’ orchestra accompanied a performance of Helen Mirrell, while Souris also arranged and conducted a Comblain Suite. In 1960, a set of artists from other genres were invited to perform in Comblain as well, notably Charles Aznavour.
- 1961 / Third edition of the jazz festival on the football pitch in Comblain-la-Tour. The list of participants’ include Ray Charles, Stéphane Grappelli, Sacha Distel, Rita Reys & The Pim Jacobs Trio, Henri Segers, Colette Deréal, and Monica Zetterlund. The closing performance is taken care of by the orchestra of Jo Carlier.
- 1962 / Fourth edition of the jazz festival at the ground of FC Comblain-la-Tour. Some of the artists featured were Pia Beck, Sylvie Vartan, Donna Hightower, and the orchestras of Daniel Janin and Léo Souris.
- 1963 / Fifth edition of the jazz festival in Comblain-la-Tour. Some of the participating artists at Route de Fairon were Adamo, Robert Cogoi, the Fud Candrix All Stars, the Enrico Intra Trio, and the orchestra of Léo Souris.
- 1964 / The main guest artist at the sixth edition of the summer jazz festival in Comblain-la-Tour is Ray Charles, who does a performance on the football pitch with his orchestra. Other artists featured include Robert Cogoi, Paul Louka, and the Bill Evans Trio.
- 1965 / In the seventh edition of the jazz festival in Comblain-la-Tour, the list of participants include Nina Simone and the John Coltrane Quartet.
- 1966 / In the eighth and last edition of the jazz festival at the ground of FC Comblain-la-Tour, some of the artists featured are John Coltrane, Benny Goodman, and Stan Getz.
- 1983 / Upon the club’s fiftieth anniversary, FC Comblain-la-Tour obtains the royal epithet, thus officially becoming Royal Football Club (RFC) Comblain-la-Tour.
- 1996 / With no information being available about the clubs performances prior to 1996, we now find RFC Comblain-la-Tour in Liège’s Provincial League 4, the bottom level of the provincial league pyramid, finishing in sixth place in Provincial League 4C in the 1996-97 season.
- 1998 / RFC Comblain-la-Tour finishes in eighth place in Liège’s Provincial League 4C in the 1997-98 season, with no information being available about the club’s performance in the following year.
- 2000 / RFC Comblain-la-Tour finishes in twelfth place in Liège’s Provincial League 4C.
- 2001 / RFC Comblain-la-Tour finishes bottom of the table in Liège’s Provincial League 4C.
- 2002 / RFC Comblain-la-Tour finishes in second-last place in Liège’s Provincial League 4C.
- 2003 / RFC Comblain-la-Tour finishes bottom of the table in Liège’s Provincial League 4C. No information is available about the club’s performance in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. Possibly, the club already withdrew from competitive football in 2004, but it most certainly no longer participated with a first team in the 2005-06 season.
- 2006 / Registration number 1969 of RFC Comblain-la-Tour is erased from the Belgian FA’s membership list. The ground at Route de Fairon is taken over by RRC Hamoir, who use the pitch as a training ground and venue for lower team matches besides the club’s own Stade Emile Thines in Hamoir proper.
- 2026 / The reserves of RRC Hamoir, who do their training sessions at Route de Fairon, are joined by some youth teams of R Fraiture FC, another club from the area, who do not have enough capacity on their pitches at Rue de la Ferme (Fraiture-Sprimont) and Ravel de l’Ourthe (Chanxhe) to host all training sessions.
