Timeline
- 1931 / Foundation of a football club in Sint-Annaland, a village on the island of Tholen in the Province of Zealand. The new club, formed at the instigation of the local headmaster, Jaap Heijboer, takes on the name vv HDS, the abbreviation of Houdt Dapper Stand, joining the Netherlands’ Football Association (KNVB). The club settles on a pitch laid on a plot of farmland owned by a local smallholder, Mr Kooijman, at Oude Zeedijk.
- 1932 / At the instigation of the Netherlands’ FA, vv HDS has to change its name, taking on the new abbreviation vv WHS, Wij Houden Stand.
- 1935 / vv WHS absorbs the local youth football club DOSKO (Door Ons?/Onderling? Samenspel Komt Overwinning).
- 1936 / vv WHS absorbs another local football club, vv DOS (Door Oefening Sterk), which most probably had never joined the Netherlands’ FA.
- 1937 / Wooden dressing rooms are added to the set-up at Terrein aan de Oude Zeedijk.
- 1938 / vv WHS hosts (Sunday) League 1 team RFC Xerxes in a gala match at Terrein aan de Oude Zeedijk, suffering a 8-3 defeat in an encounter attended by some 1,000 spectators.
- ± 1941 / Moving away from Terrein aan de Oude Zeedijk, vv WHS settles on a newly laid pitch on a plot of farmland owned by Mr Akkermans (location unknown).
- 1948 / Moving away from Terrein Akkermans after some seven years, vv WHS settles on a newly laid pitch at Dorpsweg.
- 1962 / Moving away from Terrein aan de Dorpsweg, vv WHS moves into the newly laid-out Gemeentelijk Sportcomplex aan de Bierensstraat. The new ground, consisting of one pitch (still the main pitch today), has been laid by the Netherlands’ Association for Wasteland Redevelopment (Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij).
- 1968 / Floodlights are added to the set-up at Gemeentelijk Sportcomplex aan de Bierensstraat.
- 1969 / Gaining promotion from Afdeling Zeeland Saturday Division 1, vv WHS wins promotion to District South I’s Saturday League 4 for the first time.
- 1970 / vv WHS finishes as runner-up in District South I’s Saturday League 4B, 5 points behind champions SV Smerdiek.
- 1971 / vv WHS finishes as runner-up in District South I’s Saturday League 4B, 4 points behind champions HSV Hoek.
- 1972 / Champions in District South I’s Saturday League 4B, 8 points ahead of closest followers vv Yerseke, vv WHS wins promotion to Saturday League 3 for the first time.
- 1974 / Champions in District South I’s Saturday League 3A, 1 point ahead of closest rivals vv NEO ’25, vv WHS wins promotion to Saturday League 2 for the first time.
- 1979 / A second pitch is laid at Gemeentelijk Sportcomplex aan de Bierensstraat by the Netherlands’ Association for Wasteland Redevelopment.
- 1980 / Finishing in second-last place in District South I’s Saturday League 2A, vv WHS drops back into Saturday League 3 after six years, alongside bottom club HSV Hoek.
- 1981 / Champions in District South I’s Saturday League 3A, 9 points ahead of closest followers vv Oostkapelle, vv WHS manages an immediate return to Saturday League 2.
- 1984 / Finishing bottom of the table in District South I’s Saturday League 2A, vv WHS drops back into Saturday League 3.
- 1987 / A third pitch, slightly smaller than the two full-dimension pitches already laid previously, is added to the set-up at Gemeentelijk Sportcomplex aan de Bierensstraat for training purposes.
- 1990 / Finishing in sixth place in District South I’s Saturday League 3A, vv WHS wins promotion to Saturday League 2 via the play-offs.
- 1991 / Finishing in second-last place in District South I’s Saturday League 2A, vv WHS drops back into Saturday League 3 after just one season, alongside SSV Be-Quick and bottom club vv SSS.
- 1996 / Due to a reorganisation of the Saturday league pyramid, which sees the addition of a Zaterdag Hoofdklasse as the new top level, above Saturday League 1, vv WHS is placed in Saturday League 2 rather than in Saturday League 3 for the new season.
- 1997 / In the best season in club history, vv WHS only just misses out on promotion to Saturday League 1, finishing as runner-up in Saturday League 2E, 2 points behind champions vv Arnemuiden.
- 1998 / Finishing in ninth place in Saturday League 2E, vv WHS goes on to suffer defeat in the relegation play-offs, with the club thus dropping back into Saturday League 3 alongside vv SPS and bottom club AZVV.
- 1999 / A renovation of the Gemeentelijk Sportcomplex aan de Bierensstraat sees an upgrade of the clubhouse as well as the construction of a covered stand to the southern touchline of the main pitch. At the official reinauguration of the park, celebrated with a gala match between vv WHS and a youth selection of Feyenoord Rotterdam, the park is officially renamed Sportpark De Waaje.
- 2013 / Finishing in third place in District South I’s Saturday League 3B, vv WHS qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is eliminated in R1 by AZVV (6-4 aggr. A.E.T.).
- 2014 / Champions in District South I’s Saturday League 3B, 4 points ahead of closest rivals RKVV DHV, vv WHS wins promotion to Saturday League 2 after an absence of sixteen years at that level.
- 2015 / Finishing bottom of the table in Saturday League 2E, vv WHS descends into Saturday League 3 after just one season, along with vv Arnemuiden and vv Tholense Boys.
- 2019 / Finishing in fourth place in District South I’s Saturday League 3B, vv WHS qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is knocked out in R1 by Luctor Heinkenszand (7-1).
- 2022 / Runaway champions in District South I’s Saturday League 3B, 16 points ahead of closest followers RKSV Halsteren (za), vv WHS wins promotion to Saturday League 2.
- 2023 / A small bit of uncovered seating is added to the set-up alongside the northern touchline of the main pitch of Sportpark De Waaje.
- 2024 / Finishing bottom of the table in Saturday League 2E, vv WHS drops back into Saturday League 3, along with DBGC and vv Serooskerke.
