Belgium, province: West Flanders = West-Vlaanderen
17 VIII 2025 / KSV Moorsele - KSC Zonnebeke 2-1 / West Flanders, Provincial Cup for P1-P2 teams - group stage, group 3
Timeline
- 1933 / Foundation of a football club in Moorsele, a village in the vicinity of Courtray (Kortrijk, Courtrai) in West Flanders. The club is given the name Sportvereeniging (SV) Moorsele (and not Sportverbroedering Moorsele, as one online sources states erroneously). Upon joining the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA / KBVB), the new club acquires registration number 2086. The first pitch of SV Moorsele is situated at Karrestraat. No information is available about SV Moorsele’s performance in the first twenty years of its existence, but it is clear that the club never climbed out of West Flanders’ provincial divisions.
- 1958 / Finishing in second-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2, SV Moorsele descends into Provincial League 3, the lowest level in West Flanders at that time.
- 1962 / Champions in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, SV Moorsele manages a return to Provincial League 2 after an absence of four seasons.
- 1963 / Winning back-to-back titles, SV Moorsele finishes in first place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2, thus acceding to Provincial League 1.
- 1969 / In the best season in club history, SV Moorsele finishes in fourth place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 1.
- ± 1970 / Moving away from Terrein Karrestraat, SV Moorsele settles at a newly laid-out ground at Secretaris Vanmarckelaan – i.e. the facilities still occupied by the club today.
- 1972 / Finishing in second-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 1, SV Moorsele descends into Provincial League 2 after nine years.
- 1976 / Finishing in twelfth place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, SV Moorsele drops back into Provincial League 3.
- 1983 / As the fiftieth anniversary of SV Moorsele is celebrated, the club takes on the royal epithet, thus becoming Koninklijke Sportvereniging (KSV) Moorsele.
- 1986 / Champions in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, KSV Moorsele wins promotion to Provincial League 2.
- 1994 / Finishing in third-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele is retrograded to Provincial League 3.
- 1995 / Runners-up in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, KSV Moorsele goes on to win the promotion play-offs, thus managing an immediate return to Provincial League 2.
- 1997 / Finishing in third-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele descends into Provincial League 3.
- 2001 / Finishing bottom of the table in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, KSV Moorsele tumbles into Provincial League 4 for the first time in club history.
- 2002 / Runners-up in West Flanders’ Provincial League 4C, KSV Moorsele goes on to win the promotion play-offs, thus escaping the bottom division after just one season and acceding to Provincial League 3.
- 2006 / Finishing in third place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3A, KSV Moorsele goes on to win the play-offs, thus gaining promotion to Provincial League 2.
- 2007 / Finishing in second-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele drops back into Provincial League 3 after just one season.
- 2011 / Finishing in third-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, KSV Moorsele manages to save its skin in the relegation play-offs, suffering defeat against KEG Gistel (3-2), but defeating TSC Proven (1-0). Given that only one extra relegation place is at stake, only Proven descends into Provincial League 4.
- 2012 / Finishing in third-last place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C for the second year running, KSV Moorsele once again has to stave off relegation in a set of play-offs. Managing an emphatic defeat of KRC De Panne (0-7), the club goes on to suffer a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of VK Koekelare. Given that two clubs have to go down, only VK Koekelare stays up – with KSV Moorsele having to join De Panne in Provincial League 4.
- 2015 / Runners-up in West Flanders’ Provincial League 4C, 1 point behind champions VV Emelgem-Kachtem, KSV Moorsele qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club bows out in R1 against KVP Gits (3-3 aggr. & penalty shoot-out).
- 2017 / Runaway champions in West Flanders’ Provincial League 4C, 11 points ahead of closest followers K Rekkem Sport, KSV Moorsele wins promotion to Provincial League 3. The successful coach is Kevin Vandencasteele. That same year, the surface of the main pitch at Terrein Secretaris Vanmarckelaan is laid out anew as a 3G.
- 2020 / In the 2019-20 season, cut short due to the first COVID lockdown in March 2020, KSV Moorsele finds itself in first place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 3C, 9 points ahead of closest followers KVC Ardooie (with one game in hand). On that basis, the club is allowed promotion to Provincial League 2 for the new season, marking a return to that level after an absence of 23 years. The successful coach is Kevin Vandencasteele.
- 2022 / Finishing in fourth place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club is knocked out in R1 by KFC Moen (6-0 aggr.).
- 2024 / Finishing in third place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club suffers elimination in R1 at the hands of KFC Marke (3-1).
- 2025 / Finishing in fourth place in West Flanders’ Provincial League 2B, KSV Moorsele qualifies for the promotion play-offs, in which the club knocks out KSC Zonnebeke in R1 (2-3), going on to have the better of KFC Aalbeke Sport in the final (2-0). As such, the club, still coached by Kevin Vandencasteele, manages a return to Provincial League 1 after an absence of 53 (!) years at that level.
